The right solution for your council

The correct solution depends on the particular size and needs of your council, the skills available and time and money you are able to budget. We will tailor a solution to your specific needs, according to one of the following categories.

 

Bronze Includes web space and email facilities linked to a .gov.uk or other domain name. The council will be responsible for uploading and maintaining the web site using its own staff.	Silver As for the Bronze solution, except that the web site (either an existing one, or a new one we would develop) is maintained by ActiveCouncil.
Gold Includes a complete Content Management System (CMS) configured for use in a local council context. Such a system allows ordinary users (with no special web design knowledge) to add their own content - for example publishing meeting agenda and minutes - and to maintain the site using a simple and secure web-based user interface. ActiveCouncil hosts the site and acts as the administrator.	Platinum As for the Gold solution, except that the council will also be able to administer the CMS. This solution allows more scope for site customisation and the adding of extra functional modules. It is most suitable for a council that has its own full or part-time IT support, since CMS administration, whilst not particularly technical, does require some extra training.

 

How much will each solution cost?

The final cost of each solution depends on factors such as whether there is an existing site to copy/move, whether a new domain name needs to be registered, whether you require ongoing assistance etc. However, to give you a guide, here are the base costs for each solution, excluding copying existing content or creating new content, domain name registration or transfer, but includes hosting on our own web server.

1. Bronze - £175/year
2. Silver - £175/year + service charges for updates etc
3. Gold - £525/year
4. Platinum - £725/year

Any additional work that we undertake maintaining or administering your site is charged at a standard rate of £45 per hour. All these prices exclude VAT @ 17.5% and are payable yearly in advance.

Notes:
(1) New .gov.uk domain name registrations made as part of one of the above solutions incur a discounted one-off cost of £50+VAT towards the UKERNA initial registration fees. Subsequent annual renewal fees are included in the base costs shown above.

(2) Purchase of a new .gov.uk domain name without one of the above solutions incurs a one-off cost of £100+VAT and then £50/year+VAT per year thereafter.
